Follow Through
AGEIST features people who are exceptional in how they live their lives. We do so with the purpose of showing what is possible. But not everyone has figured out this new phase that we are in. It’s confusing and often frightening, which can lead to inertia and paralysis. We try to lean on what we did in the past, and find it’s not working in the way we would want it to be.
This is what I know.
Hard is not impossible.
If you want to get to the chair across the room, you need to get out of the chair you are in. This requires action, actions only you can take. We start with good intentions, then often end up negotiating with ourselves and settling for less. We are told to take it easy at our age, take some comfort, slow down. Really? I don’t think so. If you are unsatisfied with where you are, something needs to change and it is probably going to be difficult. You need to understand that you can do things that are uncomfortable, that it will not kill you, and to stop negotiating with yourself for an easier, softer path. Last week we walked, this week we shower.
I get up at 5:45 am and take a cold shower. Start each day with the water a little colder and in a week you will be at full cold. Do not negotiate with yourself, just do it. Every day you do it you get stronger, and you will understand that you can do more than you thought. It’s simple, it’s hard, it’s unpleasant initially, but it is a victory. There are health benefits, but that’s not the point.
You are stronger than you think you are.
