Playa Viva: Award-Winning Regenerative Travel Destination

Playa Viva offers a regenerative travel experience focused on the wellbeing of guests, the wider community, and the planet.

Regenerative is the watchword for travel 2021-2022. We have our eye on Playa Viva, located just south of Zihuatanejo Ixtapa International Airport (ZIH). It is a part of a values-based movement in travel hospitality that is becoming increasingly important to our people.

The resort is located among the palm trees at 200-acre Playa Viva, a bona fide natural theme park with a turtle sanctuary, mangrove forest, 100 percent off-grid solar system, and working organic farm, where guests are welcome to volunteer or just pick salad fixings. Daily meals are included, as are morning yoga classes, airport ground transportation, organic tequila drinks, and a seriously light carbon footprint.

All twelve open-air casitas have unobstructed ocean views, thatched roofs, and canopy beds. There is also a spectacular Treehouse which is suspended in palm trees as living “piers” raised 6 feet above the ground. Nice. Who doesn’t want to stay in a treehouse by the ocean? The king bed in the “perch” can divide into two singles, plus there is an additional day bed located in the bathhouse. The private bathroom located in the bathhouse is down a set of stairs from the main perch. We are hearing there are more treehouses on the way for later this year.

Impact is integral to the Playa Viva experience. They are run entirely off-grid — generating 100% of their energy from solar power. They work extensively with the local community to help support health and education. It is a values-based vacation experience in all ways.

Food is to deliver a farm-to-table dining experience that ensures you are served fresh, healthy foods from their own farm and other local farmers. They take health very seriously, and that mindset starts with the health of the earth and continues to include all living systems that support food production, including the producer, you and your family. They are conscious that each guest comes to the table with their own perspective and thus accommodate many diets, including Vegan, Vegetarian, Pescatarian, low to no sugar, gluten-free and other special dietary concerns.

The property is situated on a mile of pristine private beach surrounded by lush green palms. The on-site farm, where they grow some of the food, including coconuts, mangos, cashews, tamarind, tomatoes, lettuces, and cactus, is available to tour. A must-visit is the baby sea turtle sanctuary.

Playa Viva is open now and available for booking here. Rates are from $195 USD per person inclusive.
