I’ve had a yearly springtime ritual with a friend to go makeup shopping, compare notes and try new things. We missed our 2020 date due to Covid and I have minimized my routine to just a few items over the last year. Here are the products that have been in heavy rotation during the pandemic.
Concealer Koh Gen Do
This Korean brand is the best I’ve found. No extras, it does the job and doesn’t highlight fine lines. About to order it again. Always a good sign.
Foundation Westman Atelier
I like the way Gucci Westman, the makeup artist, talks about this foundation as a spot treatment for maintaining the look of real skin. I think of this as a buildable concealer for around my nose and to even out some discoloration around my mouth, and dot around whatever new problem has popped up.
Bronzer Westman Atelier and Well People
I used to be loyal to Nars, Chanel, and then Tom Ford bronzer. This powder bronzer has been my go-to. I find with bronzers, tools matter. I splurged years ago on a fluffy Tom Ford bronzer brush that is a big help. This product goes on super well, no shimmer, good color, and is buildable.
This is a creme-based stick bronzer I tend to use almost like blush, along the cheek, brow bone, and sometimes as eye shadow.
Blush Westman Atelier
I switched to mainly creme blushes a few years back. They look more natural and I find them easier to apply. This one is my favorite.
Highlighter Westman Atelier
I like the look of highlighter on other people but the Nars and RMS one looked too strong. This one is subtle and it’s fun.
Mascara MAC
I have straight lashes so I always curl them and this mascara seems to help keep the curl. In terms of the look it is just right, not too subtle and not too much.
Eye Liner Chanel
This one is my go-to for years. I like the espresso color.
Eye Shadow Tom Ford
I haven’t been wearing shadow other than some bronzer or blush on my lids but if I really wear shadow just a touch of this Tom Ford feels chic and classic.
