This is a memorable piece The New York Times Magazine did a few years back with Dan Buettner, the blue zones guy. It’s a useful and entertaining guide to how to live longer and better. If you are a regular AGEIST reader, you will not be surprised by the findings: eat fewer animals, eat a low-glycemic local diet, exercise, be social, take naps and have purpose. It’s an excellent review of what is possible, and most importantly, why longevity does not have to be related to financial status. This is the key take away for me. In America, there is a tremendous difference in mortality based on wealth. It is something that bothers me deeply, and reading here that it doesn’t have to be that way is hopeful.
