RSVP for Connections, Companionship, and the Joy of Giving Back

Making a difference through the simple act of volunteering. AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP empowers you to commit on your own terms.

Use of the French phrase répondez s’il vous plaît, or R.S.V.P. — meaning “respond, if you please” — dates back to 1845. In the years since, the initialism has become engrained in our vernacular as a succinct way of asking, “Will you be there?”

Giving a yes or no response sounds simple enough, yet we’re all guilty of being a little noncommittal now and then. The reason may be a reluctance to feel tied down or lose our flexibility. But hesitation doesn’t have to hold us back from making a difference in our community.

RSVP on your own terms

AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP empowers volunteers to commit on their own terms. Volunteers in the RSVP program choose how, where, and when they want to serve. Time commitments range from a few hours to 40 hours per week.

Some people need flexibility. A flexible schedule may be important if you are still working, travel frequently, prioritize spending time with family, or have other commitments. With AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP, you can experience the power of companionship and service with a customizable volunteering schedule.

Removing the hurdle

Taking that first step toward volunteering can be a hurdle. Not knowing where to begin can make us hesitant to say “yes.” But we can RSVP.

Currently, there are hundreds of volunteer opportunities across the country listed in the AmeriCorps Seniors pathfinder tool, which gets updated every few months. Whether your next step is learning more or signing up, it’s time to get involved with AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP.

A reliable path forward

As the largest of the three AmeriCorps Seniors programs, RSVP offers the most variety of opportunities for those looking to get started. Thousands of partner organizations can benefit from you taking the leap and committing to service — be it five hours each week or 40.

Volunteering benefits the people we help and is also good for us. Mutual benefits, flexibility, and diverse opportunities to serve make AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP a simple and attractive way to give our time.

We can say “yes” to the fulfillment, sense of belonging, joy, and enhanced wellbeing that come with giving back to our neighbors, community, and country.
