Last Friday, I put this on our Instagram and Facebook pages. It received more interaction than anything we have ever posted. The vast majority were people identifying with the sense of power that ownership of one’s age gives one, which was the intention.
Some people interpreted the meaning as: sixty today is the same sixty of our grandparents. No. Nothing could be further from my intention and I apologize for the confusion. Sixty today is a whole new thing, but it is still sixty. The idea that age is just a number is misguided. The number is real and it counts. The limits one associates with the number are another matter. I can’t run a mile at the pace I could when I was 19 or even 39. But I accomplish daily things that those versions of myself could not even imagine.
