Centenarians are individuals who reach 100 years of age. In the longevity field, these people are studied to understand what is different about them that they live well past the US life expectancy of 78.79 years old.
A British biotech startup, Genflow Biosciences, is using a gene only found in centenarians called “sirtuin 6” (SIRT6) to create gene therapies. SIRT6’s only function is DNA repair and, as we have researched at AGEIST, DNA damage is a natural occurrence in the aging process. Genflow’s mission is to “deliver this SIRT6 variant in order to prevent the accelerated aging process.”
