the live-forever breakfast smoothie
OK, no one is going to live forever (Sorry Ray Kurzweil, it’s a delusion). But it’s nice to aim for a long, functional, engaged life. Last week we discussed the dangers of glycemic loads, which are multiple. Then, what to eat for breakfast? Below is the AGEIST breakfast smoothie. The goal is for no animal products, low glycemic load, lots of protein, and enough calories to get through the morning. There is little scientific rigor here, the ingredients have been honed over a 20 year period to learn what works best for me. Doing double blind-testing of each ingredient in isolation and in combination with the others would take a century. As with all anecdotal suggestions, see what works for you. Everyone is their own unique set of DNA and life experience. Respect yours.
30 grams of vegetable-based protein powder
2 tablespoons of ground flax seed
1 tablespoon raw cocoa powder
1 teaspoon ground turmeric
1 dash cayenne pepper
4 dashes cinnamon
½ avocado
4 big leaves of raw kale
6 blueberries fresh or frozen
½ bar of pure acai frozen
Add in warm to hot water which will melt the frozen ingredients and also give you a warm breakfast. If it’s going to be a very active morning, then I will add in almond butter to get the calorie and fat content up.
