Create a Better You With Creatine

Turns out creatine isn't just for gym rats. Beyond building muscle mass and strength, it's a powerful compound that boosts energy and can support cognitive function. In collaboration with Momentous.

Creatine has long been synonymous with pumping iron, bodybuilders, and professional athletes. Why? Because it helps with recovery and is a surefire way to give your muscles an energy boost. Though creatine is a match made in heaven for your muscles, its benefits go way beyond the musculoskeletal system and can be reaped by people of all ages, sexes, and athletic abilities. Momentous understands the power of creatine and how maintaining a long-term temple of health can’t be built without a solid foundation. That’s why they’ve created simple yet powerful formulations like Momentous Creatine, an often overlooked yet long-studied nutrient, to support cellular function and optimize the everyday function of your brain and body.

Creatine: A Natural Source of Energy

To do anything, our body needs energy. Creatine plays a critical role in cellular energy production and supports the regeneration of adenosine triphosphate (ATP). ATP is key to driving energy at the cellular level, and creatine helps charge your body’s batteries by upping the capacity of your cells to output energy. More energy equals improved brain and whole-body function.

Specifically, creatine helps supply a steady stream of energy to our body’s skeletal muscles, helping them to contract. Where do we get creatine from? Half is derived from protein-rich foods like red meat, seafood, and animal milk (merely one to two grams a day) while the other half is naturally produced via our liver, kidneys, and pancreas; of this half, 95% is delivered to our skeletal muscles to use during physical activity and the remaining 5% is allocated to our heart, brain, and other tissues to use (Cleveland Clinic, 2023).

Brain Fuel

Notably, one study by Candow et al., published in 2023, suggests that long-term, high-dosage creatine supplementation increases brain creatine stores; can improve cognition and memory, especially in older adults or during times of metabolic stress; and can improve aspects of recovery from traumatic brain injury in children as well as potentially reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety. They concluded that “Creatine supplementation can increase brain creatine content, which over time may help explain some of the promising effects on measures of brain health and function”(Candow et al., 2023).

The Benefits of Creatine Supplementation for Women

While studies suggest that all may benefit from supplementation for both muscle health and to up creatine stores in the brain and reap the benefits, there is growing evidence that women in particular can benefit from more creatine. A 2021 study by Smith-Ryan et al. points out that “Creatine characteristics vary between males and females, with females exhibiting 70–80% lower endogenous creatine stores compared to males.” The study concludes that creatine supplementation combined with resistance training can be beneficial for women because of this fact. However, because women’s metabolisms vary pre- and post-menopause, the effective dosage needs to be considered and more data needs to be collected to understand how these changes would impact creatine demands throughout a woman’s lifespan.

Momentous: The Crème de la Crème of Creatine

Momentous only uses the gold standard, creatine monohydrate, for their Creatine. Specifically, it’s sourced from Creapure®, the purest form of creatine monohydrate available and widely considered to be the gold standard. In 2022, an analysis by Escalante et al. showed that other brands of creatine may not live up to their label. While the majority of creatine on the market is sourced from China, Momentous Creatine is a single-sourced ingredient from Germany with no additives, sweeteners, or other ingredients.

Upholding quality and efficacy, Momentous develops all of its products with pro sports teams and scientists of human performance. Plus, they make sure all of their supplements are third-party tested and certified by either NSF Sports or Informed Sport—the gold standards for product testing in sports. As our founder, David Stewart, says, “There are too many supplement companies out there with questionable products. That’s why we [at AGEIST] appreciate the standard that Momentous holds itself to create high-quality, science-backed supplements good enough for Olympic teams and high performers.”
