Our home base is Los Angeles, and because there is so much air travel in our lives, when we need to take a break to recharge, sometimes it’s nice not to involve the TSA. Our favorite getaway is the Palm Springs Colony Palms Hotel, a lovely hotel that understands hospitality. Built in the 30s, it shows its heritage to that era. The very large pool has a chiller, which on days when its 100 degrees and all the neighboring pools are 95, is just heavenly. The grounds are well cared for and the guests tend to be well-behaved adults, as compared to the Hieronymus Bosch scenes at some of the other well-known spots in town. If you can manage it, we recommend mid-week — great value, and you will have wonderful staff all to yourself. Check here for availability.
