For years, I was all about the short, chic hairstyles. I haven’t had long hair since my college years, but, at 53, I decided to defy convention. It wasn’t just about growing out my hair—it was about embracing freedom, self-expression, and breaking free from societal expectations that women over 50 should look a certain way.
I’ve always been one to go against the grain. That’s when my long (and blonde) hair journey began, but I knew it wouldn’t be easy. Enter Divi Hair Care, the partner that turned my dream into reality and empowered me to defy age norms.
Breaking the Mold
The world tells women over 50 to keep it short, but why? I wanted to reclaim my individuality and grow my hair out—something I wasn’t admittedly thinking about but that instinctively felt right as I went from my copper color to a buttery blonde. This decision has become my mission, a reflection of my inner self breaking through the molds society had placed on me. I’m not just growing my hair. I’m redefining how I want to look, regardless of society’s point of view.
Menopausal Hair Loss: A Natural Transition
Perimenopause brings with it a host of changes, including thinning hair. As my estrogen and progesterone levels declined, I was concerned about the thickness and strength of my hair. I knew I needed more than just patience; I needed a routine that could keep up.
That’s where Divi came in, starting with their Scalp Serum—a clinically tested formula that focuses on nourishing the scalp environment. This serum—packed with amino acids, caffeine, peptides, and rosemary oil—was the first step in nourishing my scalp and reducing product and oil buildup. With daily use, I saw a noticeable improvement in fullness, which gave me the confidence to keep going.
The Divi Difference That’s Rooted in Results
As mentioned before, one of my main concerns was thinning, so Divi’s Hair Vitamins became a key part of my long-locks journey and routine. These vitamins are crafted with Divi’s unique Roots-9 Complex and a dynamic blend of minerals that support and nourish. These aren’t just regular vitamins; they are specifically designed to work from the inside out, to target the root of my healthy hair.
The results: Within 12 weeks of taking the vitamins daily, I began to see visible changes in the density and strength of my hair. Longer and stronger hair wasn’t just a dream anymore—it was becoming my reality.
Growing Pains: Tips from the Trenches
My journey to healthy, longer hair isn’t without its challenges. Along with consistently using Divi’s hair vitamins and scalp serum, here’s what has also helped me on my journey:
- Focusing on Hair Repair & Protection: To combat breakage, Divi’s Whipped Repair Treatment Mask has become a staple of mine. In just three minutes, the mask repaired my breakage-prone hair, strengthened my hair bonds, and revitalized my strands, leaving them soft, shiny, and frizz-free.
- Using Products with Volumizing Power: Divi’s Volumizing Shampoo and Conditioner are my secret weapons for lightweight hydration and bounce. Formulated with postbiotics, green tea, and glucosamine, the shampoo cleansed my scalp, while the conditioner fortified my strands with rice protein and olive leaf extract. Together, they gave me effortless lift and volume without weighing my hair down.
- Getting Regular Trims: Surprisingly, growing out long hair requires regular trims every six to eight weeks to keep split ends at bay.
- Prioritizing Hair Hydration: Divi’s 3-in-1 Leave-In Conditioner has been a game-changer. It keeps my ends hydrated, soft, and resilient, therefore helping me avoid the dryness and breakage that often comes with aging hair. Plus, it has simplified my hair routine post-shower.
- Gentle Handling: A wide-tooth comb became my best friend, and I avoid tight hairstyles that can strain my roots.
The Long and Short of It: More Than Just Hair
I’m still a work in progress. I’m currently sporting a collarbone-grazing shaggy bob that is leaps and bounds from my bottle-blonde pixie. Will I ever have glorious long hair like J.Lo, Jen Aniston, or Demi Moore? Who knows. But I love that the choice is all mine, and I have the products to prove it.
What started as a mission to achieve healthier hair turned into something much deeper. With the help of Divi, I can now achieve my hair goals while also reclaiming a part of myself that was hidden under years of societal “shoulds”. This isn’t just about hair—it’s about rediscovering my joy, embracing my individuality, and finding a community of women who, like me, dare to defy the expectations placed on them as they age. It’s a journey we’re all on, and I’m excited to share it with you.
So, whether you’re 25 or 75 and sporting a French bob or shoulder-length shag, the message remains the same: It’s never too late to start growing—whether it’s your hair, your confidence, or your dreams. Remember, your journey is unique to you and worth it. Let’s grow beautifully and strongly together.

I agee. The more of these I read, the less I trust the information.
I ordered Divi shampoo that was badly damaged during shipping (unusable), took photos of the damage, sent an email to customer service, and haven’t heard back from the company in weeks. I tried their dry shampoo, too, and found the scent to be super heavy, and it lingered for days and gave me headaches. Not impressed. I love Ageist, but not thrilled w/ some product recommendations.
Agreed. I read this article looking for useful insights and experience – instead it’s a plug for a specific haircare brand. Disappointing from Ageist.
I agree with all of the above! Finally. People verbalizing in the comments that these articles are just ‘clickbait’ peddling over-priced, over-hyped, products! I LOVE Ageist emails and often find myself pouring over much they have to offer, but this…stop.
