Remember how every summer we would all go to the county fair? Before we could afford flights to Europe, there was the fair, and it was awesome. While some dismiss county fairs as lowbrow, we love them; it brings us back to a time when hormones ran wild, when we ate and drank all manner of things very much not on anyone’s longevity protocol. When was the last time you enjoyed a classic carnival ride like the Tilt-A-Whirl, indulged in a fried Oreo, or felt the exhilaration of a monster truck show? The Crusher! If it’s been too long since such simple pleasures, grab your gang and head out to nearest county fair.
Example A: San Diego County Fair
The San Diego County Fair runs until July 7th. This fair is a summer staple, dazzling the senses with sugary treats and thrilling rides. live music, animal petting farms, competitions, rides, games, speakers, and, of course, all the fried food you could ever want. If you’re not into fried confections, no problem; we tend to stay away from that stuff, too. There are over 100 food vendors, so there is something for everyone. Pro tip: if you get too hot in the summer sun, check out the Dole Whip stand in the Green Zone area of the fair for the most delicious pineapple ice cream. You can thank us later.
The fair also has a wide range of games and rides which will keep you busy all day long, but nighttime at the fair is the best. The cooler air, the dark mystery, maybe fireworks, the sexiness of it. Yes, we think a nighttime date to the fair is hot. It is a Taylor Swift reality show if you want it to be. And if you play any of the games and win one of the huge stuffed animal prizes, email us a pic.
Let loose with friends, scream your head off on fun rides, and indulge in fair food. We encourage you to see where the closest county fair is and go have some fun. Although we prefer the night versions (see above, sexy), if you go during the day, pack some sunblock and, if it’s hot, remember to bring some electrolytes to keep yourself hydrated — suggestions that were really not top-of-mind way back then, but we are smarter now.
