According to new research published in the Endocrine Society’s Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, consuming moderate amounts of coffee and caffeine regularly may offer protection against developing multiple cardiometabolic diseases, including type 2 diabetes, coronary heart disease, and stroke.
Compared to non-consumers or those consuming less than 100 mg of caffeine per day, individuals who consume three cups of coffee or 200 to 300 mg of caffeine per day have a 48.1 or 40.7 percent reduced risk of developing cardiometabolic multi-morbidity, respectively. Individuals with cardiometabolic multi-morbidity have an almost four to seven times higher risk of all-cause mortality compared to those without any cardiometabolic diseases.
Overall, the findings suggest that promoting moderate coffee and caffeine intake as a dietary habit may have benefits for preventing the development of cardiometabolic multi-morbidity.
