New Breakthrough in Multiple Sclerosis Treatment

A recent study found that “immune cells against glandular fever have the potential to halt or even reverse symptoms of multiple sclerosis (MS).” Multiple sclerosis is a disease that affects the brain and spinal cord where a person’s immune system eats away at protective nerve coverings. The study took MS patients and injected them with “T-cells that help the body fight the virus that causes glandular fever.” The result was a slowing or reversal of the progression of the disease. Because MS is a lifelong disease once diagnosed, this breakthrough in treatment could help the outcomes of patients diagnosed.
