A new study found that an intermittent-fasting and protein-pacing diet led to better gut health, weight loss, and metabolic responses compared to simple calorie restriction. Participants following the intermittent fasting regimen had an increase in beneficial gut microbes linked to leanness and improved fat burning. Despite similar calorie intake, the intermittent fasting group lost more weight and body fat while increasing lean mass compared to the calorie restriction group. The diet changes influenced gut microbiome composition, inflammatory markers, and metabolites involved in weight regulation. The findings highlight the role of the gut microbiome in dietary responses and provide insights for managing obesity.
