A study published by NIH National Library of Medicine explores the connection between sleep and weight. The study gathered a randomized group of 80 participants and increased their sleep by about 1.2 hours a night. The study found that the sleep extension group actually ate about 270 fewer calories during their days and experienced a reduction in weight. The results show that “improving and maintaining healthy sleep duration over longer periods could be part of obesity prevention and weight loss programs.”
