Feeling Sick? Here’s How Doctors Treat Themselves

Whether you’re feeling sniffly, have Covid, or battling the flu, you may have wondered how actual doctors treat themselves when they’re under the weather. The WSJ asked “ear, nose and throat specialists, pediatricians and family doctors about the medicines they take and remedies they swear by when sick.” At the top of the list for all of the doctors are rest and fluids. For congestion, Dr. Dubin, ear, nose and throat specialist, uses a “squirt bottle filled with a saline solution sold at drugstores to irrigate the nasal passages. You need to use distilled or boiled water since tap water could contain bacteria and microbes, Dr. Dubin notes. He uses salt solution packets sold for use with nasal irrigation bottles.” Pediatrician Dr. Ellen Rome takes elderberry and high doses of vitamin C during her first two days of feeling ill.
