Coffee Is Good for Your Heart?

Coffee lovers rejoice! According to the American College of Cardiology, consuming 2-3 cups of coffee a day “is not only associated with a lower risk of heart disease and dangerous heart rhythms but also with living longer” and the findings were true for people with and without cardiovascular disease. The study followed over 500,000 people for 10 years and measured the relationship between amount of coffee consumed and “heart rhythm problems (arrhythmias); cardiovascular disease, including coronary artery disease, heart failure and stroke; and total and heart-related deaths among people both with and without cardiovascular disease.” The results found either that coffee had a neutral effect or, “in many cases, significant reductions in cardiovascular risk after controlling for exercise, alcohol, smoking, diabetes and high blood pressure that could also play a role in heart health and longevity.”
