Scientists have made advancements in restoring vision in blindness caused by cellular degeneration. The study used “stem cells to produce progenitor photoreceptor cells—light-detecting cells found in the eye.” They then transplanted “these into experimental models of damaged retinas” which resulted in “significant vision recovery.” The scientists now must “explore the efficacy of their method in models of photoreceptor degeneration that more closely match the human condition.”
