Add Paprika to Your Diet for a Boost of Antioxidants (& Flavor!)

Paprika has been on our radar after Dr. Roizen, Chief Wellness Officer at the Cleveland Clinic, shared that he had it daily for better health. In fact, paprika is featured on Dr. Roizen’s and Dr. Oz’s “Ultimate Anti-Aging Checklist” for its ability to help “fight high blood pressure and improve circulation”. [1]

According to Dr. Josh Axe, founder of Ancient Nutrition, “paprika not only helps your body fight inflammation and disease in general, but it may even have specific targeting to prevent and fight autoimmune conditions and certain cancers.” Paprika is rich in antioxidants which fight against oxidative damage caused by free radicals and the vitamin A content may help promote eye health. Additionally, spicy varieties of paprika are rich in a compound called capsaicin which “seems to be responsible for altering signaling pathways that limit cancer growth and even suppress genes that tell tumors to increase in size.” [2]
