I have great news to share. AGEIST is now being produced under the Super Age umbrella and is proudly part of the Optimism family of brands. As you may know, I have been working very hard to build Super Age this last year into a best-in-class longevity and well-being focused site. This collaboration gives us access to tremendous skill sets and resources that will help us continue to do what we have been doing—only bigger and better. Many of the updates will happen behind the scenes as we reconstruct our now rather ancient technology, but you will also be seeing, over the next few months, design improvements to the site and our social media.

AGEIST humbly started over a decade ago as a simple text-based newsletter sent to 50 people we knew, with the grand vision of them remaining our friends. When we launched AGEIST, there was nothing like it. It seemed to us that anything showing people over 50 was in some way saying we were a problem in need of a solution. Everything was about the golden this or the silver that, tired tropes that denigrated people our age. We took the other side of that coin, saying you are not done yet. We are strong, we are powerful, we are knowledgeable, and we are not invisible. The ideas around people our age have changed, and thankfully, caught up with AGEIST in many ways. We would like to claim to be part of the reason for those changes.

We are now global, with thousands of readers. You may be amazed to learn that although we almost never write about people under 50 (with a few exceptions, including this week’s upcoming Sunday mini profile), almost 40% of you are under 50, and a good amount of you are under 30. The reason for this is simple: Inspirational, aspirational, and actionable stories are ageless. Or, as one person has said to us, “Cool knows no age.” One thing that we don’t want to change is our ties with you. We pride ourselves on always personally answering your comments and questions, from which we learn about you and your concerns. AGEIST has always been about change, about making the collective vision of our future a bright, optimistic one. Thank you for being with us. We see you and you matter to us.

Onward and upward,

David Stewart
