Let’s get together. The last event AGEIST did was way back 2019 in LA and it was a super smash hit. Get ready for round 2. Calling everyone in the NYC area: We are doing an event, “How Not to F*ck Up Your Face.” I’ll be hosting esteemed beauty editor and writer Val Monroe. Let’s get to the bottom of that big question: What is the right level of maintenance? I’ll be hosting at the very swank, ultra-modern new tower One Manhattan Place in downtown Manhattan. Besides answering one of the more perplexing questions of our age, we get to all hang out, have some nice wine, and get to know each other. Even if you are a guy — I, for one, want to learn everything I can from Val — or are a woman who feels you have it all dialed in, this is for you. Prizes for the best questions! Remember all those columns written here around ‘just say yes’? This is your moment.

Community in publishing can be a bit of a one-way street. We put things out, and all of you are nice enough to read them. That, however, doesn’t connect you to other AGEIST people, and we also don’t get to know much about all of you. Social media leans in the direction of connection, but it is lacking in what we humans are so attuned to: face-to-face communications. That moment back in LA in 2019, when I was watching people come into the room and their faces just lit up with recognition that they were together with 300 people just like themselves was something I will never forget. There is a power in being part of a movement, part of a tribe — we feel seen and we feel validated.

Recognizing that May seems to be the busy social month for many of us, I want to encourage all of you in the tri-state area to add Weds, May 8th at 7pm to your calendars. If you have not been in the Two Bridges area of Manhattan recently, you are in for a bit of a shock: What used to be dodgy is now one of the most vital, vivid street scenes in NYC. One more reason to head down to One Manhattan Square and join us for our get together. Hope to see you there.

Onward and upward,
David
