This is Who We Are
Look at it. It’s astonishing and I can’t stop telling everyone about it. This is a chart, if one believes Google, of the ages of the people who read AGEIST. 40% of you are under 45! Wow, what’s up with that? How is it that we publish stories of people who at the very youngest are 48, the average being in their 60s, and there is a huge group of people younger than us who are checking us out? Maybe the myth that our millennial and GenX friends only like to read about themselves is not so true? Maybe people who are younger are seeing us as a north star of what the possibilities of the future are? This is completely unanticipated. We in no way thought that anyone under 50 would be looking at us.
The next time you go into a place with younger people — a job interview, a concert, wherever — keep this chart in mind. There are a ton of people half your age who think you are cool. AGEIST is about confidently owning who you are. Clearly we are very much not alone as individuals, or as a group. The more we look at people for their similarities to us, and ignore the differences, the more interesting we all become to each other.
